Make a partial payroll remittance

How do I record a payment if I don't pay the entire amount of the remittance owing? Support told me to use prior tax history but that isn't correct as it doesn't record the payment coming out of the account. It assumes you made it elsewhere.

Hello QBO Team James,

 

I am sad reading your response to this question. It doesn't make sense. The downside of not having ability to record partial remittance payment can affect the T4 reporting specially if the partial payment happens somewhere close to calendar yearend. In case this hasn't come to QBO's attention, section of the T4 summary shows total payments. If the total remittance for the year aren't fully paid this should show on the T4 summary as amount owing and should be included in the file submitted to CRA upon T4 submission. Creating JE will not correct this issue, so your suggestion to prepare journal entries is a little misleading.

 

Can you bring this to the software developers for enhancement please?

Hello 1215438480,

 

Here's how to record a partial payroll tax payment, in QuickBooks Online;

 

1. Select Payroll then Payroll tax from the left navigation menu.

2. Open the Payments tab

3. Scroll down and click on Record tax payments (prior tax history)

4. Select Add payment

5. Enter the Period start, Period end, and Payment date

6. Subtract the amount of the partial payment from the total payment owing, and record the difference

7. Review the Total amount

8. Hit Record payment

9. Return to the Payroll Tax centre and select Pay taxes, where you'll see the partial payment as the amount owing.

10. Hit Record payment

11. Navigate back to the payroll tax centre and open Payment history

12. Select the historical payment you just recorded, to expand the view

13. Hit Delete 

When you return to Pay taxes, you'll see the remaining amount of the payment to be made.
