Manager on Salary + hourly wage for additional hours worked

Using Quickbooks online standard payroll, I am setting up a manager on salary.

As per their contract agreement and the BC employment act, this manager is entitled to be compensated at an hourly wage for any hours worked over the agreed upon 40 hours a week. Is there a way to set up a salary employee to receive an hourly wage for additional hours? Could I do this using the "Add other earning type"? But then how would I include the # hours worked?

Thanks for your help!

Hi GlynnPH,

Your payroll is a crucial part of your business and it's vital you're able to pay your salaried employee extra wages on top of their salary. I'll be happy to share more info on this so you can continue to enjoy the awesome features offered in QuickBooks.

Based on what you've described, going with the Other earnings option would be the best. Other earnings are taxable payments to your employee and they are separate from regular wages, such as retroactive pay increases and severance pay. The amounts are included in the wage base and used to calculate percentage-driven deductions. That being said, it's important to note that QuickBooks doesn't automatically include the hours worked. You'd have to manually calculate the dollar amount of the earnings and enter those amounts on your run payroll screen to reflect the additional pay.

I encourage you to give this a try and if you have questions, don't hesitate to reach back to me in the comments below. I've got your back.
