Question

New employee has existing RRSP. She wants deductions from payroll. I can see that I can set up on payroll, but then do I remit to the RRSP or does she?

Hi there Jane,

Welcome to the Community! I'm glad you're taking the steps to familiarize yourself with the correct ways to withhold and remit your employee's contribution to an RRSP. Completing these bookkeeping tasks correctly is vital, so great job taking the steps to familiarize yourself with best practices. Here at QuickBooks, our team of support agents is trained to provide you with exceptional technical support in the use of our accounting software. When it comes to questions like these, there are better resources to consult with, and I'd like to point you in the right direction.

It sounds like you might be familiar with the steps to take to set up your employee's RRSP deductions, but just in case you're not, I've linked an article below that goes over all of the steps in detail:

When it comes to figuring out who remits the RRSP contributions to the CRA, the best resource is the CRA itself. Please refer to this article for more information on RRSP contributions you withhold from remuneration and check out the Contact Us page of their website for details on how to get in touch.

An accounting professional will also prove to be a reliable resource in this instance. If you're not working with one just yet, use the Find a pro to help button within the My Accountant tab in QBO to find one in your area that can assist you with this and other accounting tasks.

Take care! I know you'll have this figured out in no time.
