Hi tres1,

It's great to see that you're using QuickBooks Online Payroll for your business needs. The Payroll module is a robust program that makes doing payroll a breeze. We're here to answer your questions and support you when situations like this arise. I can walk you through creating the final paycheque for your employee in your QuickBooks Online Payroll account.

To run your employee's last payroll, you'll Create Payroll as normal. Choose Payroll and go to the Employee tab. Hit the Run Payroll button and choose the pay schedule the employee is under. You should see the table with your employee's names. Click the check box beside the employee. Check your dates and accounts for accuracy, and the pay period remains the same even though they only worked part of it.

The next part is where you'll make the changes to reduce the hours.

Let me explain the steps for you:

  1. Click the salary amount shown here circled in blue.
  2. The box in the image will open. Click the circle next to Adjust Salary this Time Only.
  3. In the box next to Reduce Employee's Hours By, enter the hours that they did not work from their regular schedule. This will reduce the salary accordingly.
  4. Include any vacation, severance, etc., pay that the employee's entitled to.

Complete your payroll as usual. Click Preview Payroll. Confirm everything is correct and hit Submit Payroll. Click the Finish Payroll button.

Once your last payroll for the employee is completed, you can terminate them and create their ROE. If you need more information about creating the ROE, you can find the detailed steps in this article: Create a Record of Employment (ROE).

Once this is done, you can get back to doing what you love. Reach out if you need any other assistance. Have a great day!
