Hello userumar-w,

Thanks for sharing the error message you're seeing in QuickBooks Online. This message typically comes up within the Payroll module, so I have a feeling that may be where you're working today. I want to make sure you're able to get past this and meet any deadlines you may have with processing. I can lend a hand with this.

The first place to start when these kinds of error messages come up is with each of the mentioned areas. This is one of the cases where the QuickBooks error is pretty descriptive of what's going on, rather than a simple "something went wrong" for instance. If you haven't already, please start by checking all accounts, customers, items, suppliers, and employees related to the payroll and pay run in particular to make sure everything that needs to be active is.

On those lists, there's often a drop-down that will allow you to include inactive listings or you can click the small gear icon over the Action column in something like the chart of accounts list through the Accounting tab to see how to add inactive entries. For the accounts in particular, you can also check your Payroll settings to ensure that the Accounting preferences aren't linked to any inactive accounts.

If everything appears to be in order and active, the next step is to try some troubleshooting such as clearing your cache, trying a private browser, or using a different browser type entirely to see if those will allow you to run payroll without the error. Since QuickBooks Online exists in the cloud, taking on these kinds of troubleshooting measures can often help.

Finally, contacting QuickBooks Online support outside of this community forum is the way to go if you're still having trouble. From a payroll perspective, our support team has some settings they can verify on the back end or it may even be a sync issue of some sort. Even if you're seeing this error somewhere other than the Payroll module, though, feel free to reach out. Here's how.

Schedule a Callback or start a Chat: click (?)Help in the upper right in QuickBooks Online > type and enter "Contact support" into the QB Assistant > click Contact Us > explain your situation > click Let's Talk > choose Get a callback or Start a Chat.

Social MediaFacebookTwitter, and Instagram.

Take care and enjoy the rest of your day!
