T4 Efile issue & second CPP posting incorrectly.

I just tried to file our T4s via efile. I have processed this way for years.

Today, when I try to process these, I am getting a "T4 Validation Error," which further states, "Company name - line 1: The text _______ is invalid for this field. This field can contain only letters, numbers, spaces, and most printable punctuation characters except asterisks(*), apostrophes ('), and colons(:). It also cannot exceed 30 characters in length.

This has never been an issue prior to this year. I don't know how to rectify this problem, nor do I want to. Our legal name has a (&) within it. Is there a way on the Qbooks desktop to download the T4s as an XML file without having Qbooks do it?

Next Issue,

Second CPP posting incorrectly if pensionable earnings are within the base CPP maximum contribution and then goes into the second CPP but not reaching the "Maximum Contribution" for the second CPP. This was not identified until I had filed my remittances for December. I am aware there is an issue but I have no idea how to rectify this issue for my remittance and the T4s. Because this happened on the last pay cheques of the year it was not caught by me until now.

I believe I found the solution. Under "Company", I selected "Company Information" and edited the offending characters in both the "Company Name" and "Legal Name" sections (ours was the "&" and length of the business name). I was initially wary of this, as obviously shortening and editing the names is not ideal as they are not accurate, however it generated the XML file for me.

When I went to submit the file to the CRA, it allowed me to confirm details and there was a section to edit the company name. Here, I edited it to the full, legal name with our "&" character, and the file was accepted. I received a confirmation of submission via email.

This is obviously irritating and once again QB lets us down, but at least this is off my plate...for now.

Hope it helps you.

I suspect you may be experiencing system issues that are causing the issue you've described. In order to troubleshoot this issue, I recommend using the QuickBooks Tool Hub. We are also having the T4 Efile company name issue.  Did you find the suggested solution worked?

Unfortunately, there has not been any solutions as of yet. If you find a solution please post it. I am not getting very far from this side. I cleared my last update and redone it at QBooks supports request, yet to no avail.

Did you get the second CPP issue resolved.  I had a similar situation where I did not realize there was a problem till I received a PIER that 2 staff members did not have a second CPP deduction (employee and employer).  My situation was that the T4 indicated they were above the CPP threshold of $68500 but their CPP pensionalble Earnings was at the threshold  (which is incorrect).  I too do not know how to rectify this.  Hopefully someone on this forum can help
