Hi there streetking,

I love that you're using QuickBooks Online Payroll to take care of paying your employees and managing your payroll taxes. Preparing T4 slips and summaries is an important task during this time of year so I know how important it is to be able to pull the correct dates. Let me give you a hand.

You should fill out T4 slips for your employees if you've paid them more than $500 and if you deducted CPP, QPP, EI, PPIP, or income tax from their pay. In order to prepare your T4s you'll want to follow the steps below:

  1. Hover over Taxes in the left menu and choose Payroll Tax.
  2. Select Annual Forms from the Forms section.
  3. Choose T4 slip (employer) and choose the year that you want it for.
  4. Select View to open and double-check the slip to ensure all information is correct.

Once that's complete, you can print or save the slip as necessary using Adobe Acrobat. Now you're ready to submit yoru employee's T4 to the CRA, which you can do by following the steps in our article on How to prepare T4 slips and summary. Beyond the options I've highlighted and those outlined in the linked article, QuickBooks Online Payroll does not allow for editing or customizing of T4s. If this is something you'd like to see in the program, feel free to navigate to the Gear icon, then choose Feedback to share your thoughts.

In this instance, reaching out to the CRA or to your accountant might be advisable. They'll be able to recommend how to proceed if you're unable to pull the necessary information from QuickBooks Online. Invite your accountant to join you in QBO by using the invite field in the My Accountant tab. The same page features the Find a pro to help button where you can find a QuickBooks-certified ProAdvisor who can help you with tasks like these.

Don't hesitate to let me know if there's more I can do to help. Take care and have a great week!
