Hello,

At some point vacation accrual started accidently last year. We made a year end adjustment for 2020, and stopped for 2021 when we noticed, but how do I zero out the vacation $ for 2021 so it doesn't show as an accrual for 2021?

Hi there issy,

It's vital that all your payroll information be correctly entered so that your yearly totals to be accurate. QuickBooks Desktop Payroll is a great tool able to keep track of different pay types, deductions, and contributions to make creating your year-end forms easy. I can point you in the right direction for assistance with making that change in the payroll system.

In order to know the best way to make an adjustment to reflect the vacation amount accrued, I recommend reaching out to the QuickBooks Desktop support team outside of the Community. They'll be able to view your payroll setup with you in order to advise the best course of action to get this information correct. You can reach out to them using the options provided in the Quickbooks Desktop software support policies.

If you have any other questions, feel free to reach out here.

Hello @Issy ,

If you made a year-end adjustment for 2020 and stopped for 2021, why would there be any vacation $ accrued for 2021?  Presumably, your 2020 year-end adjustment would have reversed any accrued vacation, would it not?

I want to start by saying that you cannot simply adjust away Vacation Accrual.Vacation Pay is legally required to be either paid on each paycheque or accrued for every employee. If vacation pay was inadvertently accrued, you must pay out the accrued amounts to each employee using the Vacation Accrual Paid Out Payroll Item. When that is done, you can elect to Pay out Vacation Pay on each paycheque. This is set up in the Employee Profile>Payroll Info>Vacation tab - select the Pay Every Period option. Be sure to enter the appropriate % rate and checkmark all Payroll Items that Vacation Pay is paid on.
