In the employees "available vacation" it states he has 14.9 hours available but, then in brackets it has a negative dollar amount. Does he have available vacation pay or not?

Hello LinLaur,

Welcome to the Community! It's great that you're taking advantage of QuickBooks Online Payroll to manage all of your accounting in one location. The payroll module includes multiple vacation policy options for you to use. I can shed some light on what may be causing the negative dollar amount.

The three options for vacation policies in QuickBooks Online Payroll are Vacation to be paid out each pay period, Vacation to be accrued each pay period, or Vacation does not apply. It sounds like you're using the accrued vacation option since you already have a vacation hour balance. When you do pay an employee their accrued vacation pay, it'll affect the dollar balance but not the hour balance.

As for why the dollar amount is showing as a negative, it could be that this employee was paid using the Accrued Vacation Payout pay type in a previous payrun. If the payout amount was greater than the accrued dollar amount, that would explain why the dollar balance is now negative even though there's a positive hour balance. I recommend reviewing this employee's previous pay stubs to see if they were paid vacation pay when they weren't supposed to be, or if the amount paid was more than intended. Their paystubs can be reviewed by going to the Employees screen, then clicking the Paycheque list button below the Run payroll button. You can filter by the employee's name to see only their paystubs.

Please let me know if you're able to locate the source of the negative balance. I'll be here!
