When setting up an employee I'm getting a message "That doesn't look like the right Social Insurance number. Take a look and try again. How do I correct this?

Hi there,

It's important you're able to set up your employees with ease while using QuickBooks. The program is designed to help you streamline your payroll so you can continue to manage your business with peace of mind.

What you've described above is abnormal behaviour by the program and I'd like to help resolve that issue. Before we get started, it's vital to make sure that you're using the right the right SIN number. Since I trust that you've already checked that, I recommend troubleshooting this  to help determine if it's a browser-related issue. You can check this by clearing cache and cookies on your browser. Here's an article that shows you how to do that: How to clear cache and cookies. If this doesn't work, I suggest using a private/incognito window to see if that works instead. Try this out and let me know what happens. In case this issue persists, I encourage you to contact our support team so they can assist you further with this. Here are our contact details:

  • Schedule a Callback or start a Chat: click (?) in the upper right in QuickBooks Online > enter "Contact support" > choose Contact Us > provide a brief summary > select Let's Talk > choose Get a callback or Start a Chat.
  • Social MediaFacebookTwitter, and Instagram.
  • Support hours are from Monday to Friday between 9 a.m. and 8 p.m. ET.

I'll be one message away in case you need further assistance.
