Hello wetbasement,

Working with your employee data and payroll alongside your QuickBooks Online subscription is a good way to keep on top of both of these areas of bookkeeping in one place. I appreciate wanting to make sure you have all the appropriate details in your employee setup, including something as important as a SIN. I can go over this for you.

When you're using QuickBooks Online Payroll and are setting up a new employee, there are a number of fields for you to fill out to make sure the profile is complete. Using the section that talks about filling out a TD1 form, you can enter details such as the employee address, tax exemptions, and SIN. It's under question 2, What are [employee's] tax withholdings? This article goes over it a bit further: Form TD1 overview

Another option when you're entering a new employee is to have them enter these kinds of details on their own using the self-serve portal. I've got an article that explains that as well so that you know how to take advantage of that: Using the Employee Self-Setup feature to add new hires. This helps takes off some of the work you have to do and can help ensure your employee information is correct since they're entering it themselves.

Here's a useful resource for working with the Payroll module in QuickBooks Online: QuickBooks Online Payroll help article hub

If you're adding an employee without a Payroll subscription, the option to add the SIN is just on the main window that pops up for the employee profile.

That should get you on your way, but don't hesitate if you have further questions! I'm here to help however I can.
