Hello gillianw2513-icl,

It's a pleasure to see you in Community.  Welcome!  When transactions don't match, there could be a few underlying causes.  QuickBooks Online has the flexibility you need, to make any necessary changes, so your books balance.  I would be happy to provide some insight here!

In this situation, it could be as simple as the date recorded on the payroll tax payment.  Additionally, there may have been an over/under payment.  The first area to review is your bank register to review the details of the transactions.  To do this, go to your Chart of accounts, locate the account, then open the Account history in the Action column.  Find and select the transaction, then hit Edit to expand the view.  Review the details and compare them with your recorded payroll tax payment.  If you notice a discrepancy on the payment recorded, you'll need to delete it, then record the payment again.  This should enable QuickBooks to successfully match the transaction.  If you've made an over/under payment, click here to learn how to resolve it.

Should you require additional assistance, please don't hesitate to contact us outside of Community.  A member of our Customer Care team will be glad to work with you personally, and ensure you're able to match your QuickBooks Online Payroll tax without delay!
