Question

Why isn't my Employer Account Number (Business Number) showing up on the employee's T4 slip?

Everything has been entered properly in Settings, and the # shows up on the Employer's copy, as well as on the T4 Summary.

Hi there ademaere,

It's always good to go over the detail of these forms to make sure you have everything in order before filing. Don't worry, you're not the only one who has noticed the Employer Account Number is missing from the employee T4 slips. I can explain why.

Quite simply, it's because the number shouldn't be on the employee copies of the T4s. The Employer Account Number is your information for filing, but they don't need it.

Here's information about it from the Canada Revenue Agency website:

  • Box 54 – Employer's account number
Enter the 15-character account number that you use to send us your employees' deductions. This number is your payroll program account number that appears at the top of your PD7A statement of account. Your payroll program account number should not appear on the two copies of the T4 slip that you give to your employees.

Take a look at the full CRA article here to learn more about T4s and filing: Employers' Guide - Filing the T4 Slips and Summary

Stop by again if you need anything else! Have a great weekend. :)
