Question

Why, on the Profit and Loss displayed by products/services, aren't the payroll/wages separated by prod/svc, even though we use the prod/svc in the timesheet?

Hello info1507,

This is a great question! I see that reports are making a difference for you when looking through your QuickBooks Online data, and I'd be happy to clarify what's happening with your Profit and Loss Report in relation to timesheets and payroll wages.

QuickBooks Online's features for weekly or single activity timesheets are handy for entering employee hours and setting up charges to be billable to your customers. These timesheets work two-fold: filtering the hours into the Payroll module if you tell it to and creating transactions you can bill to your customers. The program handles these details separately, which is why you don't see the payroll wages grouped by product and service on the Profit and Loss report.

I suspect you may be using a product other than QuickBooks Online, however, or an app that syncs with the program since the built-in timesheet options don't include the capability to add a product or service to the form. That would be done at the invoicing stage. If you're using a partner app or a third-party app, I recommend checking in with the app development team to learn how it should be filtering information into QuickBooks Online. While it's likely that you still won't be able to group payroll wages by product and service, speaking with the appropriate team can help with getting a better sense of how the app works with your data and QuickBooks.

If you connected an app through the Apps tab, you can return to that tab, select My Apps, and then the app in question to see the contact details you can use.

For your reference, here is more information about QuickBooks Online's built-in timesheet options, as well as a link for how to submit feedback about the existing options if you'd like and another where you can keep up to date with new features.

I'll be around if you'd like to go over any of this further or have more questions. Don't hesitate to reply to this thread.
