Question

Can an item receipt be posted without GST?

I'd like my item receipts to only post to Inventory and AP, and not post the GST until the invoice is received and paid. Is this possible?

Receipts and invoices may cross period ends and it doesn't seem correct to claim the ITC when the invoice hasn't been posted.

Hi CanadaWest,

It's a pleasure to see you in Community.  Welcome!  QuickBooks Desktop is a dynamic program that enables you to receive inventory two ways.  I'd be glad to provide more information so you can accomplish your QuickBooks goals in a timely fashion!

Receiving your inventory items is a usual part of your Accounts Payable workflow.  Click here for workflows and supplier related transactions.  If you'd prefer not to have a default sales tax code on your inventory items, you can edit them.  However, this would require you to manually enter the applicable sales tax when creating your invoices.

Should you require additional assistance, please don't hesitate to contact us.  We'd love the opportunity to work with you directly, and ensure you're able to accomplish your sales tax goals as soon as possible!
