Question

How do I record carry forward of business-use-of-home expense? (Canada) Didn't need any for this year's taxes, but I don't know how to carry it forward to next year?

Hi there vo4,

I know there are many ways to handle your taxes, and being able to take advantage of carry-forwards is great. It's important to me that you're able to properly record this in your QuickBooks Online so that your books are properly balanced and prepped for next year's tax filings.

When it come to recording carry forwards, QuickBooks Online doesn't have a recommended method to use or a feature dedicated to this option. Because of that, what I recommend is connecting with your accountant to learn the best way to record this in your books. An accountant has the know-how to work with these kinds of questions and will make sure you get on track.

To connect with an accountant, you can use the My Accountant tab. There, it's possible to invite your accountant on as a user to your books. If you don't have an accountant, the Find a pro to help button is at your disposal, linking you our list of QuickBooks-certified accountants near you.

In the event you are an accountant interested in carry-forwards for the Pro Tax module, I invite you to read through this article: QuickBooks Online Accountant Pro Tax T1 and T2 carry forward

I hope this has been helpful. Have a great week!
