Welcome back, Denziger,

I'll be happy to show you how to reopen closed books in QuickBooks Online so you can make necessary changes, such as undoing a sales tax filing. I know how vital it is to make sure these details are right, and sometimes corrections are needed for what's been entered. Reopening the books is just a few quick steps.

  1. Select the Gear icon.
  2. Choose Account and Settings.
  3. Navigate to the Advanced tab.
  4. Click the pencil icon in the Accounting section.
  5. Deselect the Close the books box to turn off this feature.
  6. Click Save.

Next, I want to make sure you have the information you need to undo a sales tax filing. This option is available to accountant users, so if you're an accountant helping out a client, it's as easy as going to the client file and selecting Undo filing from the Action column on the sales tax page. Learn more here: How do I un-file a sales tax return?

If you're not an accountant user, I recommend connecting with an accountant to have this done. This is accomplished quite easily through the My Accountant tab, where you can invite an accountant you're already working with or use the Find a pro to help button to find someone in your area.

The other option for undoing the sales tax filing is to get in touch with the QuickBooks Online support team outside of Community. Agents can have a sales tax filing undone by pulling up your account in the back end and taking care of it for you. Here are the contact options.
