Question

Trying to enable 'Billable expense' in QBO Essentials. The help menu says Settings - Expenses - Edit, then there should be an option to enable. But it is not there!

Hi there,

Billable expenses are expenses you incur on your customer's behalf when you complete a job for them. I know how important this feature can be, and it's important that you're able to take advantage of all that QBO has to offer. I'd be happy to explain why you're unable to see the Billable expense feature in your account's settings menu.

Billable expenses are a tool available in QuickBooks Online Plus subscriptions. At this time, the Essentials level subscription doesn't offer this tool. If the Billable expenses tool is necessary for your business bookkeeping, I'd suggest upgrading your subscription.

Here's how to do that if you decide to upgrade to QBO Plus:

  1. Select Settings ⚙ and select Account and Settings.
  2. Select the Billing & Subscription menu.
  3. In the QuickBooks Online section, select Upgrade
  4. Choose the plan you want, and select Upgrade.
  5. Confirm your payment information and select Save.

Now that you've switched to QBO Plus, follow these steps to turn on the Billable expense feature: Enter billable expenses.

I hope this helps get you back on track.

Take care.

We have upgraded to essentials but the billable expense options do not show up.  Does it take time for this to take place
