How do you self-educate?

Hi everyone,

I am copying this post over from the U.S community board as I am really interested in how people self-educate. Do you read forums, watch tutorials etc?

Please comment below!

(Ps. if you are the type that loves a YouTube tutorial - please visit my channel. I am currently also taking requests for personal guide videos so if you have anything specific that you are currently stuck on or struggling to get to grips with please do let me know!)

I look forward to hearing your responses.

Kind Regards,

Emily

Hey @EmilyMockett - this is a fantastic question that generated some really thoughtful responses on the U.S. side, and I thank you for bringing it up here!

For me it's always a question of prioritizing! There are so few hours in the day already, it can be tough to carve out time to read that book, watch those videos, or take that online course. What's your sense of where the key knowledge gaps are right now in terms of QB and financial literacy in general? What do you tend to get the most questions about?

    Hi Emily,

    Thanks for your reply.

I tend to get a lot of questions about allocating bank transactions. This is the most common query I get. It differs from business to business depending on the processes we have implemented and put in place for them going forward so my answers can differ from client to client.

The idea behind my YouTube guide playlist was to outline the basics to someone that may have never even looked at QuickBooks Online before. This then means that they can build on this basic knowledge over time to use the system in a way that benefits their business.

    Kind Regards,

    Emily

@EmilyMockett what a great post! And a brilliant question to ask members. This will definitely encourage people to share their tips and tricks.

On my commute to work or on my lunch break I like to catch up on some knowledge-based reading. This allows me to switch off from my current tasks and it weirdly helps me unwind! For an aspect of my job, I have to keep up with business and finance trends. Reading through magazines and online social channels is always very useful. Quick and accessible information! I am a lover of podcasts too! You can do multiple things whilst listening to a great podcast.

Shahji how do you self-educate? I would love to know!

What a great idea. You could even listen to a podcast on the daily drive in to work! Might have to try this one ...

    Hi, @EmilyMockett

Exactly that! Commuting to and from work is a lot of time wasted. I either have brainstorms during those times or read a book, listen to a podcast or catch-up with everything. Newspapers are great! I always pick one up at the tube station.

I would love to know how @ParkwayInc and @pioneerSC204 educate themselves! How do you keep up-to-date with information that's appropriate to your business sector? Do you read books? Listen to podcasts? Comment below! :)
