Hi mikehamblin-msn-,

If you have recently opened up a new QuickBooks Online file, the first step in getting GST enabled is to first switch it on within your GST Centre. To do so, please see the steps below:

  1. When signed in, please select the GST tab in the left hand menu.
  2. Select Get Started.
  3. Select which Taxes you pay and how often.
  4. Select Show other taxes to add additional taxes.
  5. Select Save and Finish.
  6. Select Done.

Once finished, now whenever you go to create items for Customers or Suppliers, or Bank Transactions on the right-hand side of your transaction detail columns you will now have the option to enter in a GST code to your Rate and Total Amount. Furthermore, you will see that you now have the option to Lodge BAS/IAS within your QuickBooks file via the GST Centre now which you can click here for more information in regards to setting up a link with the ATO

You will also now be able to add Default GST Code to your accounts within your Chart of Accounts to update your ledger. Please see the steps below if you are interested:

  1. Select the Accounting tab on the left-hand menu
  2. Select Chart of Accounts
  3. To add GST to an existing account, you can select the drop down arrow on the right-hand side then select Edit
  4. Select from the drop-down of Default GST Code
  5. Then select Save and Close

If you are still unsure of these steps and would prefer further guidance please don't hesitate to reach out to our friendly support staff by clicking here.

Thanks,
