I made a mistake with choosing the start date of my stock item. Now when I create an current Quote to my Customer it gives me an error stating the date must be prior to the item's start date.

Thank you for adding your first post, @allergyapparel5-. I can help you fix your stock item so you can create a quote for your customer.

Once you enter a customer's quote, the transaction's date must be after the date you started tracking your item. You can delete the item to fix the error.

  1. Sign in to your QBO account.
  2. Go to the Gear icon, then click on Products and Services.
  3. Look for the item from the list, then select Make inactive under Action.
  4. Tap Yes.

When done, go to the New icon from the Products and Services window to add the item again using the correct starting date. You can learn more about adding items from these links:

After that, get ready to record the quote from the +New icon. You can also convert it to an invoice to bill your customer.

If you want to update your items' type in the future, see this article as your guide: Change product and service item types in QuickBooks Online.

Let me know if you have other questions about your items or transactions. I'm always here to help. Keep safe!
