Question

Is there any way to prevent selling stock you do not have? Qb online will always go into negative stock without asking. This will help prevent stock inventory issues.

Hello there, gremms.

Currently, that feature is not available in QuickBooks Online. However, you can set up a reorder point so that you will be notified when you're running out of stock. This feature is available in QBO Plus, let me show you the steps below.

Here's how:

  1. Go to the Hamburger icon and select Sales.
  2. Choose Products and Services.
  3. Select the Low Stock or Out of Stock icon.
  4. Click the Edit button and hover your mouse to the Reorder point box.
  5. Hit Save and close.

I added a screenshot for your reference.

Also, you can adjust the quantity so that you will not see a notification that your item is out of stock.

You can check on this article if you need to set up a supplier in the future for your stocks: How do I handle supplier credits and refunds?

Let me know if you need further assistance with tracking your inventory. I'll be around to help. Have a good one.

@gremms

Consider using an inventory management with the back order feature and integrates it with QBO.

Explore this one

You will need a connector to migrate data into QBO

Another option, you can explore another inventory management app for USD 67/month to connect with QBO natively.
