Question

Can I add new categories to the service line on the invoice structure (beyond the existing one and the SKU)

I'm attempting to add new categories within the invoice structure specifically for service line items.

I've managed to rename existing categories successfully, but I'm encountering difficulties in adding completely new categories. Currently, the only category I've been able to add is the "SKU" category.

Please advise on how to resolve this issue. I'm open to a technological solution, including using the API.

Thank you very much.

Hello, itai.

We have certain limitations when adding SKUs to line items on your invoice. We can only add one to the existing SKU for each product/service.

As an alternative solution, consider using a third-party app. Intuit offers various apps that integrate with QuickBooks. You can refer to this link: Apps store, and look for an app that suits your business needs to achieve the desired outcome.

I could see the potential benefits of adding multiple SKU categories per service line item. That said, I suggest sending feedback to our Product Development Team. They will assess the feasibility of implementing this change and consider including it in future updates.

To send feedback, here's how:

  1. Click the Gear icon, then Feedback.
  2. Enter your comments or product suggestions. Then click Next to submit feedback.

You can also refer to this article on how to group your products and services into categories to keep things organised: Group your products and services into different categories.

Furthermore, I've added this article about sending invoices over time in QuickBooks: Set up and send progress invoices.

If there's anything I can help you with regarding adding categories to the line item on the invoice, please don't hesitate to return to this thread. Take care and have a good one.
