Customer Acquisition Cost (CAC) = Sales costs / customers. How do I create a non-posting account to store monthly new member counts?

There is no option in adding a new QBO account in Chart of Accounts to store new member count monthly.

Your input here in the forum is valuable to us, Dave. The ability to create non-posting accounts for tracking non-financial metrics like new member counts in QuickBooks Online (QBO) is unavailable.

The program is designed primarily for financial accounting. Its Chart of Accounts (COA) is structured to handle financial information such as assets, liabilities, income, and expenses.

Therefore, I recommend using a third-party application that integrates easily with QBO to help with this. You can find suitable apps in the QuickBooks App Center or directly within your QBO account. You can follow the steps below.

    1. Go to the Apps menu.
    2. Click Find Apps.
    3. Browse the options to find an application.

Moreover, QBO automatically sets up your COA, but you can customise it according to your business requirements. Check out these resources below to learn more:

I'll also include this article to help you personalise your sales forms, including the information that matters most to your business: Customise invoices, quotes, and sales receipts in QBO.

Having a clear account for member counts streamlines your operations, Dave. Leave a comment below if you need further assistance managing your list of accounts in QBO. We're always here to help you again.

Unfortunately you answered a question I didn't ask. I am asking if there is a non-posting account in QBO where I could store monthly new member counts. I can easily create CAC myself if there were a non-posting account.

Currently, it's not possible to create a non-posting account in the Chart of Accounts, Kravdave. Allow me to provide some additional insights on this matter.

The Chart of Accounts (COA) typically comprises posting accounts, so it's advisable to consult your accountant for guidance on accurately tracking Customer Acquisition Costs (CAC) within QuickBooks. This will ensure that your financial records remain precise.

To maintain order and enhance the accessibility of accounts in your COA, you may consider assigning account numbers. For further details on this process, please refer to the article: Use account numbers in your chart of accounts in QuickBooks Online.

If you have questions regarding your COA or any other QuickBooks-related topics, feel free to reach out. I'm here to assist you. Take care.
