Can you set up the system to refuse to invoice for an item with nil in stock?

Hello @1106506,

Thank you for posting here in the Community. Let me share some clarification about the invoices in QuickBooks.

Currently, an option or ability to stop invoicing for items with a zero balance is unavailable. As a workaround, you can use the reorder point feature to keep track of low or out of stock products in QuickBooks.

To edit a product and add a reorder point:

  1. Go to Sales, then Products and Services.
  2. Find the product you want to have a reorder point.
  3. Select Edit ✎ in the Action column.
  4. In the Reorder point field, add the threshold when you should reorder more stock.
  5. Select Save and close.

If you want to check what's running low or out of stock, please go to the Products and Services section (see screenshot below). You can click either of the two to expand the details and make adjustments.

Another method is to click the QTY field when creating an invoice to view the available quantity on hand (see additional screenshot below).

For additional reference, I've attached a link you can use to make changes to the inventory quantity in QuickBooks: Edit an inventory quantity adjustment.

Drop me a comment below if you have any other questions. I'll be more than happy to help. Wishing you a good one.
