Hello there, @littlefatduck8.

Let's go to the customer's profile and make sure to save their updated name so you can keep your data accurate and bill your invoices in QuickBooks Online (QBO) accordingly.

When a customer's name is changed, it should retroactively affect all their previous, current, and future transactions. You may haven't successfully saved their edited name. That's why QuickBooks billed the new invoice to their previous name. To make sure your customer's name is updated, here's how:

  1. Go to the Sales menu.
  2. Choose the Customer tab.
  3. Select the customer name you want to edit.
  4. Click Edit.
  5. Make the changes to the customer's name.
  6. Select Save.

You can read this article to learn more about managing customers in QBO: Add and manage customers in QuickBooks Online.

Also, you may want to check out one of our Help pages as your reference to guide you in managing customers, invoices, and payment transactions in QBO: Manage customers and income for QuickBooks Online.
