Question

I need to be able to input a few more decimals in the foreign currency exchange rate, as I am unable to insert the right bank register amount. Is it possible?

An amount of 135000 USD was transferred into 1061410.50 HKD however it is either changing the value of USD to 134999.95 or the HKD to 1061410.87 since the exchange rate can only go as far as 0.1271892.

I understand that you need to input a more precise foreign currency exchange rate in QuickBooks to accurately reflect the bank register amount, yoon.

In QuickBooks Online (QBO), the exchange rate field is limited to a certain number of decimal places, which may restrict the precision of the foreign currency exchange rate. To address this, I suggest connecting your bank to QBO. By doing so, you can take advantage of its automated entry import and matching functionality. When matching transactions, it will update the home currency amount and exchange rate automatically based on the information retrieved from your bank.

Once linked, the following steps will guide you with the matching process:

  1. Go to the Banking menu.
  2. Select your bank.
  3. In the For Review tab, look for the transfer and select it.
  4. Select the Find match option.
  5. Use the filter tools to narrow down the data.
  6. Choose Foreign currency.
  7. Select the entry to match.
  8. Click Save.

You can also manually upload transactions if you can't find your bank. Additionally, it's important to regularly reconcile your accounts to ensure accurate and up-to-date records. This practice can help you identify any discrepancies or errors, allowing you to address them promptly and maintain the financial health of your accounts.
