Changing account or detail type in QuickBooks Online is quick and easy. Let me show you how, newhydraassetman.

You can go to the Chart of Accounts and change the account or detail type from there. Below are the steps to complete the process:

  1. Click Accounting on the left and choose Chart of Accounts.
  2. Find the incorrect account and click the drop-down arrow under the Action column.
  3. Tap on Edit.
  4. Change the Account and Detail Type from there.
  5. Hit Save and Close.
  6. You'll be prompted with Changing the type or detail type of an account may affect your accounting and reporting. Are you sure you want to do this? Hit the Yes button to confirm.

Please be reminded that changing its account or detail type may affect your accounting and reporting. I'd recommend consulting an accountant for guidance so your account stays accurate.

If you're still unable to edit the types, we can do some of the basic troubleshooting steps. You can use these shortcut keys depending on the browser you're using:

  • Google Chrome: Press CTRL + Shift + N.
  • Safari: Press Command + Shift + N.
  • Mozilla Firefox: Press CTRL + Shift + P.

Once signed in, go back to your chart of accounts page and modify the information from there. If it rectifies the issue, go back to your main portal and clear its cache to remove the browser's history or you can press CTRL+Shift and Delete key on your keyboard altogether.

To help you manage and utilize your chart of accounts you can scan through this article: Learn about the chart of accounts in QuickBooks. It provides more information about the different account types as well as steps on how to make them inactive.

You can always get back to me if there's anything else I can help you with. I'd be more than willing to lend you a hand. Have a good one!
