Question

Why can't invoices be created? The Save and Review and send buttons are grayed out.

They are grayed out from the beginning whether I create a new invoice from scratch or duplicate a prior one. I have been in every field to see if something will trigger "perceived completion" so they will convert to full color=functioning, but no luck. Additionally, when I close the invoice with the "x" it gives me an option to save and close but it just sits there instead of saving and closing.

We can take some troubleshooting measures to get the Save, Review and send button menus working when creating an invoice in QuickBooks Online (QBO), payments10.

Let's make sure you’re logged in with a user role that has full permissions to create and modify invoices. Sometimes a restricted role might not have the ability to save or send invoices. Then, we can perform some troubleshooting steps to see if the issue is within your browser. We can open a private or incognito window in the browser to open QBO with a clean slate and load fresh data. Here's how:

    • Google Chrome: press Ctrl + Shift + N
    • Mozilla Firefox: press Ctrl + Shift + P
    • Microsoft Edge: press Ctrl + Shift + N
    • Safari: press Command + Shift + N

Once done, create and send invoices in QBO again. Here's how:

    1. Click the + New Plus icon and choose Invoice.
    2. Choose a customer from the Add customer ▼ dropdown.
    3. Make sure all of their info is correct, especially their email address.
    4. Review the Invoice date, Due date, and Terms. Enter new dates or terms, if you need to.
    5. For each line item on the invoice, select a product or service from the ▼ dropdown.
    6. Select how you want to calculate the charge amount - flat rate, by hour, or by item. Enter a quantity and rate, if needed.
    7. Press Save and close. If you want to send it, press Review and send, then follow the prompts on the screen.

If it works, go back to your regular browser and clear the cache to delete those temporarily stored files and browsing history. The collection of data over time can create corruption, however, removing this should fix the issue. Also, you can utilize another supported browser or device if this doesn't work. This happens when the current browser you're using has a temporary issue with the program.
