Hi, I have a company with 4 locations in QuickBooks. I have created rules for some expenses and in these rules I have not selected a location and I do not want to allocat

Hi there, @Daniel12m.

 

Let me provide some troubleshooting actions to settle this issue about bank rules in QuickBooks Online (QBO). 

 

If you have old rules with locations created in QBO and the Track location feature is turned on, that's a possible reason why QBO is still putting a location to your new rules. 

 

Let's go to the Gear icon, then choose Account and settings, and select the Advanced button to check the feature. If it's turned on, let's turn it off, so it will not automatically allocate the location.

After that, I'd suggest editing the description to isolate the problem. But, if the same problem, let's do primary troubleshooting steps to confine the issue. To start, please use a private browser when logging in to QuickBooks. It will help us isolate if the issue is specific to the browser.

 

  • Ctrl + Shift + N (Google Chrome)
  • Ctrl + Shift + P (Firefox)
  • Control + Option + P (Safari)
  • Ctrl + Shift + P (Microsoft Edge)

 

If this fixes the error, we can go back to your regular browser and clear the cache storage to prevent unexpected behavior in the product. Otherwise, using other supported browsers can be a good alternative too.

 

If the issue persists, I'd advise you to delete and re-create the current rules you've created to make your settings effective.

 

To delete, here's how: 

 

  1. Go to the Banking tab on the left side. 
  2. Choose Rules. 
  3. Click the Edit drop-down arrow, then hit Delete.

Hi, 

 

this issue is still not resolved. All my transactions are automatically being suggested to be put to a certain location.  

I don’t want to allocate them to a location so why is it doing this?

Let me elaborate on why locations are still allocating your transactions, Daniel12m.

 

If these are existing transactions, any changes made to your location or bank rules won't apply unless you'll manually remove them in your actual transactions. You can either turn off the location or make them inactive.

 

Then, delete and recreate the bank rule. Moving forward, once you enter new transactions. it won't auto-allocate location.

 

For your reference, you'll want to categorize your transactions so you can match and add them to what you've entered in QuickBooks Online.
