Hello there, aalsehymi. I'm here to help you create a purchase order in QuickBooks Online (QBO) without errors.

To start, let's check the information entered in the Category details section of the purchase order. If you're using this, ensure that the Category column is not blank. For instance, if there are details entered in the Amount, Class, Customer, etc. columns while there are none in Category, you'll get the "Select an account for this transaction" message. Please see the screenshot below:

If you don't want to use this section, simply delete the data entered and leave the columns blank. This will prevent getting any error messages.

For reference, please refer to this article: Create and send purchase orders in QuickBooks Online.

If this is not the case, you can access your QBO account via an incognito window to have a clean slate. Below are the shortcut keys you can use:

  • Google Chrome: press Ctrl + Shift + N
  • Mozilla Firefox: press Ctrl + Shift + P
  • Microsoft Edge: press Ctrl + Shift + P
  • Safari: press Command + Shift +N

Once signed in, create a purchase order again. If this work, clear the cache of your regular browser. If not, you can utilize another supported browser or device.

When everything is fine, your next step is to update their status and add it to a bill.

I'm just around the corner if you have any other concerns about creating purchase orders in QuickBooks. Have a good one and stay safe.
