Welcome to the QuickBooks Community, procurement-miss. I'll be sharing different steps so you can change the Purchase Order items description and increase the width in QuickBooks Online smoothly.

If you mean to update the Purchase Order item description and increase the width while creating the entry, I recommend going to the Products and services page and editing the item's information from there.

Here's how:

  1. Click the Gear icon at the top.
  2. Choose Products and services.
  3. Locate the item and click the Edit link under the Action column.
  4. Go to the Description field and change the information.
  5. Click Save and close.

Additionally, you can also modify the Purchase Order item description manually from the PO page.

On the other hand, you can increase the width by clicking the column line. I've attached a screenshot below for visual reference.

If you're referring to altering the item's description and adjusting the width upon printing the entry, you can customize the Standard form style. This will allow you to edit and change the width. Please know that customizing the template is only for sales forms such as invoices, estimates, and sales receipts. However, the purchase order format will follow the Standard form style in sales forms so you still utilize this.

Here's how:

  1. Click the Gear icon and choose Custom Form Styles.
  2. Locate the Standard forms styles, then click Edit.
  3. Go to the Content tab.
  4. Click the second or center box of the form.
  5. Click the Edit Labels and Widths link. You can toggle left or right to adjust the column width.
  6. Click Done.

Lastly, you can open this article if you need steps on how you can update the status of a purchase order and add it to a bill: Create and send purchase orders in QuickBooks Online.

Fill me in with any additional questions you have regarding customizing or updating purchase orders in QBO. I'm always up to lend a hand, procurement-miss. Have a great day!
