Hello, lidia-symbol-vc.

I'd be happy to explain how to allocate prepaid expenses during the amortization period. Basically, when you pay for an expense in advance, like a year's worth of rent or insurance, you need to spread out the cost over the periods that benefit from it. This is where amortization comes in. It's an accounting process that calculates the cost of the prepaid Expense and allocates it to each accounting period in which it's used. By doing this, you can accurately reflect the Expense on your financial statements and avoid distorting your financial results.

The first step is to create an expense account for prepaid expenses, you first need to go to the QuickBooks Chart of Accounts and select New. From there, choose Expense as the account type and name the account Prepaid Expenses. This will ensure that you have a designated account for keeping track of any prepaid expenses you may have.

Then, the next step is to record the prepayment. To record a prepayment in QuickBooks Online, go to the  (+) New icon and select Expense. Enter the name of the vendor and the amount of the prepayment, and select the Prepaid Expenses account as the account.

The final step is to set up the amortization schedule for the prepaid Expense. To set up the amortization schedule, go to the Expenses tab and select the expense transaction. Click on the Make recurring button and select Schedule. Choose the frequency and the start date, and select the Prepaid Expenses account as the account. QuickBooks Online will automatically amortize the prepaid Expense over the period you have specified.
