How do I record a credit to my credit card? For example, I returned an item that I used my credit card to purchase. I was looking through the different help boards, and when I try to follow the advice, my screen takes me to a point where I have to purchase an upgrade to my Quickbooks account. Help!

Hi there, Elena Gross.

Glad you've come to reach out to us here in the Community. I'll help you enter a refund charge on your credit card (CC) for returned items. It only takes a few steps!

Beforehand, can you clarify what steps you tried to follow? This information will help me determine why it asked you to upgrade. To record it, you'll have to enter a credit card credit. This option is available for all QuickBooks Online versions.

Here's how:

  1. Click on the +New button and then Credit card credit.
  2. Pick the vendor's name in the Payee drop-down menu.
  3. Select your CC account.
  4. Enter  the inventory item you returned and its amount in the Item details part.
  5. Click Save and close.

If you receive a refund from a supplier for purchases using your bank account, you'll have to enter supplier credits instead.

Please keep me posted on how these steps help you out with recording your refunds. I'd be happy to know and provide additional assistance. I'm determined to ensure your success! Have a great day!
