How do I get a general ledger summary report

I've got the steps you'll need on how to get the report, margaret31.

The Balance Sheet report shows the beginning balance, transactions, and total for each account in your Chart of Accounts. You can export the report and delete the items that you don't want to be displayed on the report. Let me show you how:   

1. Go to the Reports menu. 
2. Look for the General Ledger report. 
3. Select the Report period and then click Run report.
4. Click the export icon at the upper-right of the report. 

You'll also want to use other financial reports that will help you in looking into your accounts. Feel free to use the Customise reports on QuickBooks Online page if you need more help in adding or removing filters and columns.
