Data issues migrating from Desktop to QBO

Hello,

I came on here yesterday to ask some advice and have spent a lot of time today speaking to MoveMyBooks and QBO helpline.  Through those conversations, we have identified that there is a problem with my QB file and it seems difficult to migrate successfully.  The error messages that keep coming up are that the version I have is not a QB UK version.  I believed it was simply because the currency is all £ when I pull reports.  When I looked at a "Write my check" option though, I noticed that although the currency says "£" the words say "Dollars" (as below).

I presume that this is the root of some of the issues.  Is there any way that anyone can think of prepping my data to be able to transfer?  I have tried the QB Tool Hub which hasn't 'fixed' the data sufficiently, and although my desktop QB connects directly to QBO and says that it has imported the data, nothing then materialises.

Any help would be much appreciated as I am loathe to re input unless I really have to.

Thanks,

Cat

Open your company file and navigate to Edit > Preferences menu. What kind of tax terms do you see? What is Sales Tax, VAT or GST?

From looking, it would appear to be a US version from some of the answers.  As I'm not set up for tax on here, nothing stands out, but "dollars" and the constant error messages for it not working with a UK version anywhere would indicate a US system I'd think.

Is there any way to convert the US file that I presumably have to a UK version in order to use my data for QBO?

Hello Cat83, thanks for posting on the Community page, so  under your email address we can see 2 accounts one is a simple start account that is a UK account and the other is an Advanced account that is US. If you are trying to migrate into the US account you can't with having a UK desktop account. You would need to cancel the US account and take out a new UK account instead and do the migration again into the correct account. You should still be able to use the same email address for the new UK advanced account. Here Is the link to purchase a UK advanced account. There is no other way to do this as you can't move accounts from one region to another it has to be the same region.

I think it automatically seemed to assign the company file to a US account when it was uploaded on a call with your help desk.  I only want the one file obviously, and I can see when I go into it that there are two accounts, which is not what I want, no.

I'm fine to go through whatever steps, but in honesty, this is pretty confusing and I'd appreciate just knowing if |I will be able to use the QBO UK version with my current desktop data eventually, which I now believe to be a US file?

Hi Cat, thanks for getting back to us.

It isn't possible to migrate data cross-region between products (both QBDT and QBO). As such, it isn't possible to switch from US to a UK version. You may find a third party which is able to complete this, however, we don't endorse any specific service.

If you are looking to use QuickBooks Online UK, we'd recommend setting this up as a new account by entering opening balances. Please get back to us below if you need any further guidance.
