Downloading Quickbooks desktop 2020

Hi, I am admin on my computer but after downloading QuickBooks desktop 2020 it will not allow me to change/access/save in certain folders as it states that I can only access it as admin. Please can anyone help assist me with this issue. Temporarily I have copied the files to a new folder but do not want both folders there as it could cause confusion.

Let me help sort this out, @Andrea20A.

 

The error prompt you've received generally occurs while opening or modifying the QuickBooks company file. 

 

Here are the possible reasons for this error: 

 

  • The company file is stored in a protected location such as the root of C:\\ drive of Program Files
  • The file is saved in a restricted location and the current user does not have appropriate permissions to access the folder.
  • The folder where the company file is located is damaged.
  • QuickBooks company file is damaged or corrupted.
  • The path of the folder where the company file is saved is very long and QuickBooks can’t reach out to the folder. 

To get rid of this error, let's run the QuickBooks File Doctor.  Here's how:

  1. Close QuickBooks.
  2. Download the QuickBooks Tools Hub file. 
  3. Open the file you downloaded QuickBooksToolsHub.exe.
  4. Follow the on-screen steps to install and agree to the terms and conditions.
  5. When the install finishes, double-click the icon on your Windows desktop to open the tools hub.

Once downloaded, let's run the QuickBooks File Doctor.

  1. From the tools hub, go to the Company File Issues tab.
  2. Choose Run QuickBooks File Doctor. 
  3. In QuickBooks File Doctor, select your company file from the drop-down menu. If you don’t see your file, select Browse and search to find your file.
  4. Select Check your file (middle option only).
  5. Click Continue.
  6. Enter your QuickBooks admin password and then select Next.

Since you already did the recommended troubleshooting steps and still unable to download QuickBooks, I would recommend contacting our phone support representatives directly.

 

Issues like this requires technical help which includes running diagnostics to identify any installation file issues and configuring the computer settings to successfully install the product.

  1. Go to your QuickBooks Home page, then click the Help menu at the top.
  2. Choose QuickBooks Desktop Help from the drop-down.
  3. Hit the Contact us icon.
