Hello there, @Davejoseph84.

You may encounter this error when the CSV file’s format is incorrect, or the template doesn’t meet the specific requirements. QuickBooks Self-Employed can import CSV files that use either a 3-column or 4-column format.

To seamlessly import the data, check the following information:

  • Remove zeroes (0) from the file and leave those cells blank.
  • Select the column header labels (from the dropdowns) that match the column header labels in your CSV file.
  • The file should contain the following information: Date, Description, and Amount.

For more information about formatting restrictions, check out the Import bank transactions using Excel CSV files article.

If the file format is already properly map, you can now import transactions again. Here’s how:

  1. Log in to your QBSE account to access the Transactions tab.
  2. Click the drop-down menu next to Add transaction.
  3. Select Import transactions and make sure it's the same account where you downloaded the data.
  4. Choose Import older transactions under the Action column.
  5. Click the Browse button and locate the file you've exported above.
  6. Select Include all transactions and then review your transactions.
  7. Hit the Continue button and click OK then Done.

Additionally, the following article provides an overview about exporting data:importing transactions in QBSE: Export your data from QuickBooks Self-Employed

Please let me know if there’s anything else I can help you find in QBSE. I’m always here to assist further. Have a good one.

Hi Lorna

Thank you for reaching out to the Community. What we can do is look at the CSV and make sure we can get it to upload in a test Self Employed account and then email you back with the amended file as we have looked at your previous contacts and can see you have already gone through some formatting steps which have not resolved the error. We have sent an email to you at the email address registered to the Community

Thanks

Emma
