Question

Hi, i've signed up to mtd with hmrc but the vat centre on my QB account just shows an error (Graph QL error). So i'm unable to view or submit anything to HMRC through QB

After signing up to MTD with HMRC, you should be able to access the VAT Centre in QuickBooks Online (QBO). To isolate this, make sure that the VAT Registration number (VRN) is valid and updated.

 

If the issue persists, try logging into your account using a private browser (incognito). There are times that the browser is full of frequently accessed page resources, causing some unusual responses.

 

Here's how:

 

  • Press Ctrl + Shift + N (Google Chrome).
  • Ctrl + Shift + P (Firefox or Internet Explorer).
  • Control + Option + P (Safari).

 

Once logged in, go back to the VAT Centre by clicking the Taxes menu located on the left pane to double-check.

 

If it works, return to your default browser and perform clear cache. Every so often the cache becomes overwhelmed with older data which can potentially cause viewing and performance issues. Clearing it will refresh the system, and you'll be able to work with a clean slate. If the issue persists, try using other supported browsers.

Hi, Unfortunately none of these have worked. The vat centre is viewable if I’m disconnected from mtd. But as soon as I authorise QB the problem seems to start. Sign in details are def correct. QB seems to have an issue communicating with Hmrc.

I have looked into this further and confirmed that there is an ongoing issue about the Graph QL error when accessing MTD for VAT in QuickBooks Online (QBO). With this, some of our customers were unable to view or submit the return.

 

I recommend contacting our QuickBooks Support Team, so you'll be able to receive updates about this investigation. They have direct access to your account and will be able to add you to the notification list.

 

You can reach them by following these steps:

  1. Sign in to your QBO account.
  2. Go to Help and click on Contact us.
  3. Enter your concern and select Let's talk.
  4. Then, choose either Chat or Call us.

I'll also update you on this thread once a permanent fix has been released for this issue.
