Great thanks for your help so far, how do I then resubscribe to a new package then because it tells me to go to subscriptions and billing but when I click on the client the only option available is transfer billing to me - there does not seem to be an option of resubscribing to a different package

Hi Loricowie, so it would be a case of using an empty spare licenses to create a new online account for the client as you cannot upgrade from self-employed to one of the online  accounts as the two accounts work differently.  So essentially it is starting from scratch again in the new online account.

It's good to see you here in the Community, @loricowie.

I'll help you upgrade your client's subscription from QuickBooks Self-Employed (QBSE) to QuickBooks Online (QBO) Simple Start.

QBSE and QBO are different versions of QuickBooks. You'll have to sign up for QuickBooks Online for your client and then move their QBSE data to QBO. Let me guide you how.

  • Step 1: Download your QuickBooks Self-Employed data
  • Step 2: Sign up for QuickBooks Online
  • Step 3: Move your transactions to QuickBooks Online
  • Step 4: Cancel your QuickBooks Self-Employed subscription

You can read this article for step-by-step instructions on each stage: Switch from QuickBooks Self-Employed to QuickBooks Online.

You may also want to learn more about QuickBooks Online. You can check out this article to know how to get started: Get started with QuickBooks Online.

Come back to this post if you need more help with switching subscriptions from QBSE to QBO, @loricowie. I'll be around to provide further assistance.

Thanks for reply, so can this all be done through the accountants quickbooks as it was myself (accountant) that signed him up and is paying his subscription? He has never used the software, I didn't know at the time but have since found out he is a limited company so self employed software no use as I will need to do payroll for him

Hello Loricowie, yes you can do this as the accountant for them. Just follow the steps Mark has sent and look at the links he provided as well and it has all the information there that you need.
