Question

How do you add a class column to transactions? There is no selection for one in the settings gear. This is the QuickBooks platform for a UK account.

Thank you for posting here, Tatiana.

Let me ensure that you can add classes when creating a transaction in QuickBooks Online (QBO).

If you have QuickBooks Online Plus and higher versions, we can add classes to your transactions. To do so, you'll want to ensure that the feature is turned on.

Here’s how:

  1. Go to the Gear icon, and select Account and Settings.
  2. Select the Advanced tab, and select the Categories section to edit.
  3. Toggle on the Track classes. Then, check the Warn me when a transaction isn’t assigned a class.
  4. Under the Assign classes, select the One to entire transaction or One to each row in transaction.
  5. Lastly, select Save. Then, Done.

Then, you can start tracking your transaction by class to identify transactions and get specific insights to plan ahead easily. I also added a snapshot below to refer to when adding classes specific to an invoice:

Moreover, here are some helpful articles to get better insights about tracking your transactions:

I also added the following articles for your reference when categorising transactions and reconciling your account.

Let me know in the comment section if you have more questions about tracking classes. I’m just around the corner to lend a hand for help. Have a good one!
