How to create a QuickBooks Desktop portable company file for Mac (2019 version) from a QuickBooks Enterprise company file for Windows (2018 version)?

I have a client that wants to take over her bookkeeping and just purchased QuickBooks Desktop for Mac 2019. For desktop users, my firm currently uses QuickBooks Enterprise 2018 for Windows. I created a portable company file and sent it to the client via email, but they are telling me now that the password is not gaining them access to the file. I did not change the password and confirmed that it still allows me to access the Enterprise file on my server so I do not believe the password is the problem. Is there a specific process that has to be followed to create a portable company file specific for use with Mac's? Any advice would be helpful! Thanks in Advance!

I can share some information you need when sending a portable company file to your client, Studlos03pc.

 

Before your client can restore the portable file, they need to convert the company file from QuickBooks for Windows into QuickBooks for Mac. However, you can only move company files from QuickBooks Desktop Pro or Premier.

 

Since you're using QuickBooks Enterprise version, I'd suggest contacting our Technical Support Team. They'll check what they can do to provide you with a better option or a workaround.

 

Here's how:

 

  1. Click Help on the top menu.
  2. Choose QuickBooks Desktop Help.
  3. Enter your concern in the Have a Question? field.
  4. Click Contact us.
  5. Click QuickBooks Setup & Navigation.
  6. Choose File Setup & Management.
  7. Click Start a Message.
