Question

I disconnected Amex to try to reconnect. Now amex is gone from the tiles but I can't re-add an amex UK account. How do I get it back?

Hi there, @ruth13.

Thanks for reaching out to us here in the Community. I'm here to share some information about connecting the bank in QuickBooks Online.

Currently, the American Express (UK) version doesn't support an Open Banking connection. Since the ability to download bank transactions automatically is unavailable, the only workaround you can perform is to import bank transactions manually.

Here's how:

  1. Log into your bank's website and download your transactions (pick QBO or CSV file format).
  2. In QuickBooks Online, go to the Banking menu or Transactions menu.
  3. Select Upload transactions or Upload from file
  4. Select Browse and then select the file you downloaded from your bank. Then select Next.
  5. In the QuickBooks account ▼ dropdown, select the account you want to upload the transactions into. Then select Next.
  6. Follow the onscreen steps to match the columns on the file with the correct fields in QuickBooks. Then select Next.
  7. When you’re ready, select Let's go.

After uploading data manually, the Amex tile will show again in the Banking section. However, please note that transactions will not download automatically.

Additionally, I recommend visiting the following article to keep you up to date on any changes with your bank: Understanding if you can connect your bank feeds to Open Banking.

Fill me in if you have additional questions about connecting your bank in QBO. I'm always here to help. Take care always.
