I have taken the self assessment account but have vat on my invoices

Here’s how to turn on the VAT feature in QuickBooks Desktop. 

1. Click Edit at the top and select Preferences. 
2. Select VAT from the left menu. 
3. Go to Company Preferences 
4. Click Yes for Do you manage VAT?

Once you’ve turned on VAT in QuickBooks UK, VAT codes should be set up automatically. It’d be best as well to consult your accountant. They can advise the right percentage and when to deduct VAT from your customers based on how you run the business.
