Question

I'm about to register as sole trader for Tiling. Do I need to go for the construction scheme? Do I need to create a contract to work alongside another company ?

The company does bathroom renovations: Consists of removal of full bathroom/tiles, laying plumbing, tiling and installing plumbing. I assist the plumber( I don't fit) but I'm about to start tilling walls/floors.
Do I need to register CIS?
Do I need to provide them with a contract as a subcontractor?
Do I need an insurance since I'm not employeed by them but work with them as an individual?

Hello there, Anthony. Let me shed some light on the Construction Industry Scheme (CIS).

This scheme is set up by HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) to facilitate the collection of taxes from individuals employed in the construction industry. Companies must withhold a percentage of payments made to subcontractors, which go to HMRC as part of their tax and National Insurance obligations.
Contractors are tasked with the responsibility of computing and passing it to HMRC on behalf of subcontractors.

I recommend contacting HRMC to know if you need to register, provide a contract as a subcontractor, and if insurance is required. You can consult a tax professional or accountant for additional guidance or options.

Moreover, I'll be adding these resources to learn how CIS works in QuickBooks Online:
