Hi there, kayskipp.

I can help you in rectifying the error code concerning submitting CIS tax information and entering your Unique Taxpayer Reference (UTR) in QuickBooks Online (QBO).

To start, we can perform some troubleshooting steps. These fixes get rid of typical issues that could make the application behave strangely, which limits QBO's ability to function properly.

To open an incognito window, you can follow these keyboard shortcuts:

  • Press keys: Ctrl + Shift + P (Mozilla Firefox & Microsoft Edge browser)
  • Press keys: Ctrl + Shift + N (Google Chrome browser)
  • Press keys: Command + Shift + N (Safari browser)

Once done, please log in to your account to a regular browser. After that, I suggest deleting your browser cache to refresh the system. If the same thing happens, I recommend using other supported browsers. This way, we can identify if this is a browser-integrated issue.

Once you’ve sorted out the error, we can perform the steps below to guide you in entering your UTR. Before that, let’s ensure to set up your Construction Industry Scheme (CIS) in the application:

  1. Go to the Gear icon and select Account and Settings.
  2. Select the Advanced tab and select Construction Industry Scheme (CIS).
  3. Click the pencil icon to edit.
  4. After that, turn on the Enable CIS switch.
  5. Then, enter your UTR number, Employer’s PAYE reference number, and Accounts Office reference number.
  6. Check the box that reads I am a CIS subcontractor if you are, and select your CIS rate. To calculate the damage your CIS sustained, we require this. When you sign up for CIS, you'll receive this from HMRC.
  7. Choose Save, followed by Done.

You’ll also want to check out this article for more details about turning on CIS and entering your UTR: Turn on CIS in QuickBooks Online.

Concerning locating your UTR number, once you have entered this into your QBO, you can go back to your Construction Industry Scheme (CIS) section with the steps above to re-check.

If the same thing happens, can you tell me more about what exact error you received during the process? This helps me determine the leading cause of the issue and provide an appropriate solution.
