Hi, @bookings5! I hope you are doing well. I’m here to assist you in claiming your rent/insurance through the Simplified method. I’ll provide the steps and add recommendations to make the process as easy and straightforward as possible.

QuickBooks Self-Employed uses the Simplified method to help you figure out your deductions based on a flat rate for the hours you work from home each month. This means you won't have to calculate the business-to-personal part of your home expenses, like heating, Council Tax, and mortgage interest. If you work from home for 25 hours or more each month, you can use this flat rate deduction.

To claim your 'work from home' expenses using the Simplified method, please follow these steps:

  1. Go to Settings.
  2. Click on Tax Profile.
  3. In the Business use of home office section, enter the number of hours you work from home. If you hit 25 hours or more, we’ll automatically calculate your eligible deduction and include it in your tax report.

If you prefer to claim actual costs instead of using this method, just leave the Business use of home office box blank and continue to categorise your bank transactions as usual.

Please remember that the flat rate does not cover telephone or Internet expenses. You'll need to use actual costs for these expenses to determine your deductions. For more help, I suggest talking to your accountant or tax advisor. You can also visit the HMRC website for the latest flat rate deduction amounts and examples.

I hope this information eases your concerns and helps you navigate the claiming process. If you have any questions or need further clarification, please don’t hesitate to reach out.  Wishing you a wonderful day ahead!
