IIF Import Issue

I'm having trouble importing lists from QB 2014 to 2019 desktop.

The customers and suppliers are fine but the chart of accounts  has failures.

When I select the 'review now' option I'm asked how I want to open the IIF file, the options are QuickBooks Launcher or search for another option in the app store.

If I exit QB and click on the newly created IIF file I get a message about QB launcher.

Can anyone please tell me how to find the correct way to review the failed items?

Thanks

Hi @TaliaI

When I click the review button I just get the same options as I did with the COA - it asks me whether I want to open it with QB or find another app.

I haven't tried the supplier or stock list yet but I imagine I'm going to end up with similar issues.

Hello Tracey,

I think our only option now would be for you to contact our Desktop support team - they will be able to set up a screenshare and look at the file you are attempting to import, making sure it is formatted correctly etc. You can reach them through 0808 168 9535.

Thanks,

Talia

Hello tracey29,

Could you please send a screenshot of what happens when you select the review now button, and when you click on the IIF file?

Thanks,

Talia

Hi Talial

Thanks for your reply.

This shows what happens when I select the option of reviewing the failed entries after I've carried out the import.

Hi there, @Tracey297

I appreciate you providing a screenshot to get a better picture about importing IIF files.

I'll share the correct way to review the failed items so you'll be able to successfully import the Chart of Accounts (COA) list.

It's possible the format is incorrect when importing your COA.IIF file. This maybe the reason you're unable to import it.

To help fix this, let's open the file using the Microsoft Office Excel. This way, you can edit failed entries in the list. Here's how:

  1. Right-click the export file.
  2. Choose Open with, then select Microsoft Office Excel
  3. If a warning about incompatible features, click Yes
  4. Go to File, then choose Save. Edit the data in the file.
  5. Close Excel
  6. Click No if you're prompted to save again.

After that, let's create a backup of your company file because imports are irreversible. Then, you can import again the edited IIF file to QuickBooks 2019. Here's how:

  1. Go to the File menu at the top.
  2. Select Utilities, then choose Import
  3. Hit .IIF Files
  4. Find the edited IIF file, then click Open

The steps above will help you successfully import your COA list, @Tracey297

Hi @RaymondJayO

Thank you for your detailed instructions.

I've imported the COA and found the errors but I don't know what I need to do to fix them! The Excel file tells me what the error is but I don't know what the solution is and what it should say.

There are just 2 lines on the COA - one says:

The record at (or starting at) this line could not be imported. The specified special account already exists. [580]

And the other says:

; [ERROR] The record at (or starting at) this line could not be imported. The enumerated value "NonPosting" may not be used in the element "Account Type" in this request. [3152]

I haven't gone any further than the COA as I want to get this right before I move onto the Customer list.

One option is to enter it manually because I know what the accounts are and there are only 2....

Can you help please?

Hello Tracey,

Could you also please send a screenshot of those error messages, including as much of the information you are attempting to upload as possible?

Thank you,
