ILLEGAL DATA GATHERING: Do I need to cancel my subscription?

I have QBO provided via my accountant and I want to track mileage.

On Android the mileage feature is part implemented - it gathers mileage but doesn't give me access.

It seems that the Accountant is the Master Admin, and he can see my mileage, but doesn't do any himself course.

I am Admin, and I can't manage mileage (unless it happens to pop-up), even though it is me doing the mileage.   This seems utterly misconceived....

There is a data protection issue here:

My accountant can track my movements any time I have location enabled and I have no control over that data.  I have now mileage tracking control in the App.  #### THIS IS ILLEGAL ####

So, I must close down my existing account (supplied by the Accountant), and take out a new subscription myself.  Then add the Accountant as an Admin.

When I do this, way is the best way to transfer the data?

How do you plan to reward Accountants for promoting your product, if their users are forced to take their own subscription in order to record mileage?

How can I make the switch so that I have continuity and not pay double subscription?

Hi F1Andy 👋

Thanks for your post.

You're correct that at the moment, only Master Admin users have access to the mileage feature within QuickBooks, though we're working to give access to different user-types in the future.

The mileage tracker will only record trips if the auto-tracking switch is turned on within the app, this can be turned off at any point.

You can see here how to Change your QuickBooks Online master admin user so that you can continue to use your current account whilst having full Admin rights.

Please get back to us below if you have any Q's!

Can you share a screen shot of where the auto-tracking switch is please?

Perhaps this is the underlying issue - I found no controls for mileage tracking - it just records journeys; while you are thinking "why doesn't he just switch it off?"...

Thanks

Andy

Thanks for getting back to us, F1Andy,

Let me send the screenshot on where you can find the auto-tracking feature on your QuickBooks Mobile app.

  1. Tap Mileage.
  2. Tap Auto-tracking.
  3. Toggle Auto-tracking on.

The Track mileage in QuickBooks Online page will tell you more on how to ensure you're able to track your trips.

If you're already the master admin of the account, you can uninstall and reinstall the app on your device. This will download the latest updates of the product and for you to see the Mileage feature.

Seems like we are getting to the issue:  I can't tap "Mileage" - there is no control for it.

I have "settings" - see attached screen grab - but there are no mileage controls.

On "Dashboard" screen I have Profit and Loss, Expenses, Invoices, Account Balances only.  There are no Mileage controls.

So I may be right:  You are thinking "just turn it off!" and I'm thinking "How?"  :-)

Here's a thought:

If my accountant is Master Admin, and tey turn Mileage tracking on by default for all the clients that they re-sell QBO to, would that enable mileage tracking on my app but leave me without controls?

Hi Andy We appreciate your frustrations that you would like to be able to track your mileage however this function is only available if you are the Master Admin. You would have to contact the Master  Admin of the account, we notice that you state it is your accountant, and get them to to transfer the Master Admin to you.
