Importing additional nominal accounts into the chart of accounts.

Hi, Can anyone confirm if you're able to import additional nominals into the chart of accounts? I don't want to import them if it overwrites the accounts already there - just in case!

I've got 42 codes to set up so I could do with being able to upload rather than set them up manually. They're only set up with account names, no nominal codes are there.

Thanks,

Lindsey

Hello there, @LOPorterdale.

I am here to share some insights on how to set up nominal codes in QuickBooks Online (QBO).

Before adding your online bank transactions, ensure to turn on the account number in the Chart of Accounts so the nominal code will be uploaded automatically.

The account number is off by default, so here's how you can turn it on:

  1. Go to Settings, then select Account and settings.
  2. Click the Advanced tab.
  3. Select Edit in the Chart of accounts section.
  4. Turn on Enable account numbers and choose Show account numbers.
  5. Click Save and then Done.

After importing your online bank transactions, the nominal code will be automatically entered in the Number column before the Name column in your Chart of accounts.

In case the nominal codes are still not showing after following the steps, you can manually assign an account number to the accounts listed in step 2 of this article. Use account numbers in your chart of accounts in QuickBooks Online.

Furthermore, I'm adding this helpful article as your reference in categorizing and matching your online bank transactions in QBO: Categorise and match bank transactions in QuickBooks Online.

Come back to this post if you have other concerns about adding nominal codes in your chart of accounts in QBO. I'll be here to lend a hand.
